Our PADI Divemaster Interns are a huge part of the team, and play a massive role in the enjoyment of our students. They come join us for 12 - 20 weeks of diving, learning new skills and exploring Orkney, so we thought we'd do a series of blog posts about how they found the experience and what they're doing now. All these posts will be original and non-edited, so any negatives they have will be left in (we'll just sulk in the corner as we read them)! This second one comes from Zack who joined us back in 2021!
"Since completing my DM internship with Kraken Diving in Summer 2021, I’ve gone on to complete the IDC and become a freelance instructor. The more places I’ve dived for work - from North Wales to Malta to Bermuda - the more I’ve realised what a special place Scapa Flow is, and how good the quality of training is at Kraken Diving. As a DM intern at Kraken, I was given hands-on experience with real responsibility from day one, and felt like a truly valued member of the team throughout the whole summer. Rob and Margot’s DM internship set me up to do things like get full marks in the paper exams at the IDC, be comfortable working in lower visibilities with clients new to diving, and to always model the safest, most professional diving practices.
Kraken has given me a deep love for wrecks and a desire to appreciate their unique history that I just can’t shake. It’s filled my diving bucket list with wrecks I want to dive on my own trips with friends. It makes me “that guy” on the dive boat in the Caribbean, begging to see some metal rather than another shallow reef/tiny fish!
Kraken have always, and continue to be, really supportive of my diving. In the future and when time allows, I’d love to spend some time getting deeper into tech training. And if I ever got an opportunity to do peak weeks instructing back in the Flow? You bet I’d be there!"
